Do any of our MPs actaully know anything?
Listened to the latest pronouncement from Tristram Hunt MP Shadow Education Secretary re all teachers in state schools having to be 'registered', and all the other drivel he was spouting. No-one asked why this should apply only to those teachers in state schools - when free schools are allowed to have unqualified teaching staff. Why does this assume that all teachers in the independent and public school sector are somehow superior? I thought it was pretty disgraceful of a Labour party politician to be taking this attitude, he obviously isn't aware that all teachers are subject to regular appraisals and classroom observations already. Continuing professional development is widely available in schools. As for this nonsense about a 'register', teachers come under the authority of the Teaching Agency now and there is already provision to deal with unsatisfactory teachers. Teachers, like our medical professionals deserve our support and respect and just for once I wish some of these smarmy, clever dick politicians would apply some of these requirements to themselves. I wonder how many of them would make the cut if they were subject to rigorous behavioural and professional standards. My guess? Certainly not a majority.
