Which third runway would you prefer?

Really!? Are they serious!? So this is the choice they are giving us for their new consultation!? Do they think we are idiots!? HOW ABOUT NO THIRD RUNWAY!!!!!!!!

And the bump reminds me that, according to the Heathrow tweet, the hot weather has caused some of the newly resurfaced runway to crumble so that they are having to use the northern runway for landings this afternoon (?evening).No alternation for me today then......

It really is a nonsense to have a major airport sited so planes are flying low over very heavily populated areas.  Accident waiting to happen?  My neighbour had a large lump of ice crash through her roof, and through into the bedroom -fortunately no one was in the room at the time!

Heathrow have published a big load of technical documents today that support their third runway proposal.Of particular interest are the flightpath maps (illustrative only - and subject to public consultation !) in Appendix H ofhttp://your.heathrow.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/01-Heathrow-3RNW-Air-and-Ground-Noise-Assessment.pdfIn many scenarios, they appear to be reducing the population exposed to noise by avoiding flying over Central London and using curved approach paths. Perhaps Chiswick does better than might have been supposed - but Shepherd's Bush, Wimbledon, Richmond Park and Ealing look to be in the areas that will be overflown much more frequently....

"Bring on Boris Island."Why? Supporting an unworkable, unaffordable, nonsensical scheme won't help you win the argument, unfortunately.  It's a great shame the Mayor doesn't pack it in and either challenge the grounds for expansion anywhere or back Gatwick's proposal.  A coalition of airlines, the airport authorities and the city's government around that would act as a powerful counterweight to Heathrow, who must love the divided nature of the opposition.

I thought it was a little later than that this morning (but not much).I'm hoping the forecasts of east winds for the next three days come true - and then the six months of runway resurfacing should mean that Richmond gets the early flights all this summer.......I'd agree another runway is a disaster and I've only just twigged (looking at the stuff from last time round) that the easterly take-off routes would have to be re-jigged ; again bringing loads of noise to other areas that won't be used to it.

So, the perfect peace of the night was broken at 04:10hrs this morning with the first landing of the nighflights over Brentford.  I couldn't go back to sleep, even with my double glazed window closed and cotton wool in my ears, with the nighflights continuing to land and blending in to the normal rush hour peak of flights coming into Heathrow.  The proposed expansion of Heathrow is going to be a disaster in my opinion for Brentford and surrounding areas.  The push for 24/7 airport will mean increased pressure on expanding the volume and timeslots of nightflights.  A radical solution is needed to solve the Souths demand for a 24/7 airport hub - and surely Heathrow is not the answer.  Bring on Boris Island.

The consultation paper  regarding the 3rd runway was a joke. Fully loaded questions aimed in only one direction... More planes flying in over our heads. No to the 3rd runway !!!!!!!!!!

Indeed it is, although the available info may not be too informative. Heathrow still say they are unsure about where the flightpaths would go. A straight-in approach to their proposal must surely go over the Great Western Quarter. It is possible that easterly take-offs from the old runway may be pushed further east too (to allow take-offs from the new runway) and these may also end up going over Brentford rather than Heston/Osterley Park as currently. (There was a noticeable patch this Monday lunchtime around 13:25 (thunderstorm diversions ?) when three planes did this.)

No third runway at Heathrow is necessary. Expanding Gatwick is the answer although I would also support Boris Island.

I too am in the "no new runway anywhere" camp and believe there is still much more that could be done to improve Heathrow without more concrete.It is interesting to read the report that Hillingdon will consider on Tuesday regarding the application to do runway work to end the Cranford agreement .http://modgov.hillingdon.gov.uk/mgConvert2PDF.aspx?ID=19354 Hounslow have submitted a lot of work showing how badly local schools would be affected and, on the current criteria proposed by Heathrow, how minimal the mitigation  would be to cope with the noise  increase.

Either way they'll put more planes over Brentford and Isleworth via the rota. I don't think there should be a new runway anywhere but Gatwick seems much better in terms of number of people affected.
