The Weir celebrates 10 years

A big thank you to Joanne Lavery and her wonderful staff for ten years of great service and top quality food.  Bring on the next ten!

We recently went to the Weir and took advantage of their Saturday night steak deal. We had a really enjoyable evening and the steak was cooked perfectly.

Anthony, I am surprised to hear that the Brewery Tap serves a great Sunday Roast as I didn’t  think they did them at all are you sure you don’t mean the Griffin (corner of Brook Road/Braemar Road) who do serve a splendid high quality Sunday lunch?  It is wise to book in advance as they do usually sell out quite early and, unlike at The Weir, there are NO additional service charges.  It is, after all, a pub not a restaurant but a pub serving excellent food.

Can anyone remember the name of the Landlady when the Weir was the White Horse?Now that was possibly the rudest person who ever worked behind a bar and we use to pop in just to experience it

Having moved in to the area from Wandsworth Town (Fulham previously to that) last May, The Weir is the nearest thing to the pubs that I am used to. Being 28 and grown up in the countryside until university and moving to the big smoke when I was 22, I have frequented some excellent SW london pubs such as the East Hill, The Sands End, The Alma, Butchers Hook etc. Whilst most pubs are run by Geronimo or Youngs, I can't help but liking them. As a result of there being no where like this in Brentford I travel to Chiswick/Strand on the green and get my frieds who still live in Fulham/Wandsworth to meet me there. I have been to the Weir quite a few times and cant help but feel they try too hard. The food is good, I went recently with some friends and for a laugh we decided to tuck into some of their cocktails (why do they even need to do cocktails??) The place lacks atmosphere and the leather style big seats don't really help what could have a nice country style plain decor with shabby chic furniture to match its exterior. Just my 2p but I think it could be fantastic if it took a leaf out of some other more popular places in town, whilst staying original.

My husband and I frequent the Weir quite often. We are always met with friendly and welcoming staff and a pleasant atmosphere. Here' to the next 10. Thank you Joanne Lavery.

Been to the Weir at least two dozen times in since it opened.  Food and portions very underwhelming each and every time.  All our guests have not been impressed, not disgusted either I might addKept giving it a chance but not any more. A shame because it is a short walk away.For the price it is simply way, way, not good enough. There is no comparison between the Ealing Park Tavern and The Rose and Crown by St Mary's in South Ealing.The Sunday Lunch in the Brewery Tap is far better and far better value, no wonder they sell out.It does compare with the once great Red Lion on Ealing Green and the Plough in Northfields all of which seem to think that pretentiousness over discerning is all that is needed to draw in the cash.That probably works as a business plan but not with us anymore. Such a shame.Sami's is good. and the Italian place that's changed it's name a few times Prezzo I think, near the lock is also very pleasant.

Nor have I - out of my price range now I'm retired. I miss the White Horse and the many, many summer pub lunches I enjoyed in the canalside garden.

I always choose Sami's for a take out curry delivery. Food is always excellent and hot. Highly recommended.

I like the Weir, the food is good, if not cheap by Brentford standards and its a great location with a lovely garden. I took friends from 'up north' there on Tuesday to find the dining room packed with a group from GSK. There is a new menu which no longer lists burgers, but they are still available from the bar board..... It is more of an eatery than a pub but I always find the service fine if I just pop in for a pint. I like Sami's as well and eat there more often than the Weir. I do hope both are still going in 10 years time.....

I may be a lone dissenter here but I've always found the service a bit hit and miss and the food always costs rather more than it's worth. It always strikes me as a place with a huge unfulfilled potential - the garden for instance why on earth they line the tables up in long rows is beyond me.
