Artificial or Real Christmas trees?

I say artificial as I am not into chopping down trees (even those grown specifically for the purpose - must be a tax wheeze?). I think we are too busy chopping and knocking things down. They last longer as well.

I agree with keeping in with the style of a late Victorian house. There is a sort of Christmas card character about a well set out window, sash I hope, with a real tree in it. It doesn't do to mess with these things. Mind you, I planted a fir in the garden and sort of settled for that with the pale imitation in the house. Our kids, however, appear greatly interested in the presents and not the tree. Shame really.

IAN, a real Christmas tree is a must with our family I'm afraid...much as I warm to your feeling about cutting them down!When our children were small(30+ years ago), we tried with an artificial one. It was nice, but the kids didn't like it. So now we always have a real one and our grandchildren seem to prefer it too. And I must say it looks so much better in a late Victorian house - the artificial one appeared a bit out of keeping somehow. But I do know how you feel and I'm sort of with you on the the subject.;-)

I have to say that a real tree is so much nicer. My husband made me buy an artificial one last year as he was sick of the pine needles and of trying to dispose of the tree after the New Year. I really hate it! Every time I look at it I think it looks so plastic. I may have to 'accidentally' break it when taking it down!! :0)
