I don't use the self-scan either but it seems to me that bar codes on goods must have put an awful lot of people out of work too - far fewer cashiers are needed than if we were all standing in line waiting for the cashier to feed prices in (and wouldn't we just love that) and I don't suppose that the number of other jobs created around scanning would make up the number. I have mixed feelings about the self-serve and the barcodes but things change, always have done, always will. Perhaps the reason that we now only have one postal delivery a day is because just about all of us use the technology available to us instead of putting pen to paper. And so on and so forth.
