Ripping out Brentford's better bits

I see that they are ripping out those rather nice street lights in Boston Manor road.That seems rather a shame, they give a real lift to the quality of the area.and they are quite new anyway.The new ones look brutish and oversized, give the appearance of a motorway and look cheap and nasty by comparison.Were these not gifted as some lasting legacy by GSK or something a few years back?

Not only that but I understand the specially designed columns were cut up to prevent them being re-used. How that meets green credentials one wonders.Boston Manor Road looks awful now. New posts are way too high and the lighting is awful, cold and stark and very difficult to see into the harsh shadows.There are a few roads where this type of lighting has improved. Lower Windmill road for one. But they clearly have not factored in things like trees.It was the talk of Boston Manor Road this morning when we took the kids to the park.

Surely not?Those lamp posts were specially commissioned for Brentford to enhance Boston Manor and The Half Acre, they cannot be more than 8 years old.How on earth can this be?Do the conservation officers and councillors know?Will take a look tomorrow.
