Your money no object as Labour Lead Member sends out election propaganda to tenants and leaseholders

Local authority tenants and leaseholders throughout the borough were today the proud recipients of a mailout from the Lead Member for Housing justifying himself over his handling of the Hounslow Homes fraud allegations, and trying to explain away his actions in dismantling the Hounslow Federation of Tenants' and Residents' Associations (HFTRA), the umbrella organisation representing service users from some 24,000 dwellings.The cost of this hasty pre-election mailout will have been put down to the Housing Revenue Account (HRA), into which our tenants and leaseholders pay their rents and service charges.   Despite austerity and the proliferation of foodbanks everywhere isn't it nice to know that our residents in social housing can still be called upon to dig deep and to provide for the things that really matter?

Maybe when they have finished with Tower Hamlets, the fraud squad should take a closer look at some of Hounslow's councillors and practices.There must be some truth in the rumours about a few that never seem to go away.How any honest working person can vote in this borough is beyond me.That's why so few vote, everyone has seen and heard how they carry on.I wish we had a box to say 'None of the above'And 'None of the above' would almost certainly win.

In some circumstances a sound argument could be made for removing councillors, that is if the object of the exercise is to make it more democratic rather than less democratic.  What he has done in fact is to create a Board with less rather than more of a democratic mandate and which is to all intents and purposes subordinate to him.I don't know what angers me more, the fact that this letter is so deceitful at its core or the fact that he has asked the tenants and leaseholders to pick up the tab for what is clearly a piece of Labour Party election propaganda.

Thanks phil.  I haven't got mine yet    He has also called time on the leasehold forum  removed councillors from the TLJJCC and removed Councillors from Hounslow homes board

Somebody has advised me that the cost of posting out these letters was 39p per item.  Add to that the paper, ink and envelope and we are talking 50p per item.That's a cool £12,000 spent on this little PR exercise by the Lead Member for Housing, who by an extraordinary coincidence is up for election in seven weeks' time.Maybe it's just me but I think our tenants and leaseholders, many of whom work hard to pay their bills, ought to know about that.
