That may well be and of course they shouldn't. A call to the football ground to question this may be in order. The people I am talking about do not live up the gate end though, more in the middle of the road (and one up the opposite end) and I know exactly who they are. Why, exactly, do they need 'convincing' to not do this? As stated before, these people are not disabled or even elderly and no doubt park quite happily in other people's roads when out and about. I am giving up on this for now except, perhaps, to take remedial action where necessary. Finally, I still believe that there is every chance that this behaviour will continue even after the introduction of the CPZ and it is unlikely that any warden patrol will take action as they won't know who put the cones out unless they actually witness the deed being done. One would hope that they would actually see fit to remove the cones from the roadway. All I can say is that the miscreants (not the wardens!) need a good coning!

Well, Brentford FC placed cones to reserve space for a private vehicle again today. For a FIAT DU**NDO :(. If BFC is doing it, surely it is much more difficult to convince ordinary people not to.

Purely out of interest - I wonder if there are any who voted for the all day six day a week who are now 'regretting' it and, conversely, any who voted No or in favour of one or two hours per day who are now in favour of the proposed all day six days a week.Anybody? And your reasons being?

It's very interesting talking to some about all this.Some people are quite adamant that an all day CPZ means a space outside their house. It doesn't and it won't.Those few I've met who are really for the full 6 day zone oddly all it drive large 4 wheel drive cars and expect the CPZ to make space for them.It's the mix of ignorance and selfishness that has surprised me.

Another cone removed today (by somebody) from a space in Mafeking Avenue. As I said in an earlier post, I don't even think an all-day CPZ will stop certain people from bagging 'their' bit of the road. What would there be to stop them from continuing?

Thanks for your response.I do, however, know without a shadow of a doubt that the cones in Braemar Road are put out by the same people at any time they see fit. I wonder if any of these selfish (and that is the only word for it) able-bodied people would care to turn up at the meeting on Tuesday evening and identify themselves. I would like to hear them try to defend the indefensible. They are probably also amongst those people who voted for an all day six day a week CPZ - just to make sure that 'their' space is always there.Somebody does see fit to remove these cones (mostly no doubt snaffled from the football club in the first place)from the road now and again but they are, of course, easily replaced. Apart from that, it was a weekend with no football and plenty of parking spaces were to be had up and down the road, not that there not being would justify this selfish me me me behaviour.I really can't see how anybody can defend this behaviour, even the culprits themselves.

Thanks for raising this again Anne.The CPZ may stop or at least reduce this behaviour as  the competition for parking will reduce and availability of parking will increase.Unfortunately Brentford Football Club often uses cones to "reserve" parking on the match days. And not for the club coach and emergency vehicles (which is understood), but also for some private vehicles, too.

I am not in favour of the CPZ although would be willing to 'go' with the limited number of hours per day option.What gets me - and I have posted about this before - are the selfish people who put out cones to bag 'their' space. Yesterday, in Braemar Road, apart from the Disabled Bay which has been empty for some days (which is of course something different), there were two cones put out to reserve the space for a rather large camping vehicle and later, in the adjoining space, one cone for a car. At the Griffin end of the road, there is a white line added on to the yellow lines on one corner - what the white line signifies or how it got there is another matter - but this is usually occupied by a cone which reserves the space for a young and able-bodied woman to park there. On Albany Road, near the corner with Brook Road South, an enormous and heavy-looking cone is frequently placed out on the road. It seems to have replaced the two smaller ones with warning signs attached to not remove them which used to be put out. clifden Road has a disabled bay which frequently has a cone put out in it as if warning even other disabled badge users not to park there. Lateward Road has at least one frequent space-bagger etc. Now, whatever you think of this, do you think that the proposed CPZ will stop this behaviour? I doubt it as some people seem to think that they should be able to park directly outside their own front door and there would be nothing to prevent them from putting out cones as they do now. Finally, in case you are wondering, I have tried to contact the Council about this in the past but got absolutely nowhere. Even an email which I wrote about six months ago got an automated reply that a response would be forthcoming but I have never had one. I do not want an argument with my neighbours but it is their behaviour which is causing the problem, not mine.

Thanks for setting up the petition Jackie, I hope you get a good response. The council's decision to effect six day, all day restrictions was perverse, since most respondents voted for much shorter restrictions. I hope they can be persuaded to look at this again. Perhaps we need a letter/email campaign as well.

Thank you Raymond.As I expected, your explanation is based on speculations rather than facts. No wonder your number (£320) is different from Anthony’s (£220). Using your approach I can easily come up with any number I want – just to make the case more convincing.I also lived in a full CPZ area for three years and had to pay only for the residents permit.Yes, I did not have many visitors and most of them used public transport.I appreciate that there may be a need for special visitors, i.e. careers… But they fall in a different category, as there is a special career’s permit for £60 per year.As for the 300% increase in visitor’s permits… again, it is a speculation. Cost of anything may increase. When was an increase of residents or visitors permits in Hounslow (the Butts for example?)Albany Parade car park is a completely different issue, having nothing to do with residents permits (except that cars that used to be parked there now compete with residents to park around Griffin Park). Council must allow free parking for local trades for a limited time (1 hour would be good) – in special places like the High Street, Albany Parade car park, car park opposite Costcutter.

I can Alex.Having lived for 8 years in a full CPZ, it really does wound the wallet.If you have just a few visitors a week that will cost at a liberal estimate, £5 a week.52 weeks per year. 6 days a week.  Thats not £200  it's £260.For some who need daily visits this can run way beyond that figure.It could cost £30 a week £1,560 a year!  Plus permit for your own car.These are the unmentioned realities of living in a CPZ that one only finds out afterwards.Plus the permit cost of just one vehicle £60Total cost  £320 per year.    Unless you have no visitors or tradesmen per year.So £200 per year is a rather low estimate.Ours was never below £200 and visitor permits were cheaper than the current Hounslow one.Also Ealing and Brent have hiked up visitor permits and residents permits by 300% over the last 3 years.Serco now have the contract for all three boroughs and are pressing very hard for huge increases in parking.If you want to see the effect of that take a walk round to Albany Parade car park. Deserted all day, every day. Five weeks ago it was busy all the time.Shops and businesses have lost 70% of trade and are facing ruin if  the mess is not sorted out soon.
