Does Ruth Cadbury Wants to be.......?

A LBH Councillor and or a Member of Parliament.Why is she standing as a LBH Councillor Candidate in May 2014?

I was brought up in Wirral West - we had Selwyn Lloyd as MP who was distinguished by being Foreign Sec at the time of Suez and Chancellor whilst the Tories cocked up the economy in 1962 (for which he was sacked and replaced by Reginald  "little pot of money for my old age" Maudling)He subsequently became speaker so nobody could get rid of him, before he was shuffled off to the Lords.Good to see the Tories culling themselves (more effectively than they managed with the badgers) in the North of England. Perhaps they think if the North is as Tory-free as Scotland the Scots might stay?

I believe that, more importantly,  people will be wanting to know who the Conservatives will stand against Ruth Cadbury in the GE  since Mary Macleod has blown her chances of being elected again following  yet another blunder by her in attacking the press for reporting the Maria Millar expenses issues.

I assume that when Ruth is elected as our  MP next year she can resign her Councillor office if she wants to?

I don't know John,all I can think is that she's not as confident as yourself that she'll get elected at the General Election.....who knows?

"When Mark Bowen stood for parliament in Feltham and Heston he made it clear he would continue his term as councillor and I'm sure he would have given both his very best shot."Indeed and thank you.  I did pledge to residents in Feltham North that were I elected to both, I would not claim the Members Allowance at LBH such is the overlap I anticipated between the two roles e.g. casework pertaining to Council matters.

But for too many Chris, unfortunately, it's the colour of the rosette that counts rather than what the person wearing it actually does or doesn't do.And to make it worse when you drill into the political programmes that actually lie behind the rosettes there is precious little between them beyond the facade that it suits them both to present.  When a genuine alternative presents itself, as you can see in the case of the ICG, the two tribes close ranks pretty sharpish.

Of course the rules should be the same for everyone irrespective of which political party you belong too. However, just as important is doing the right thing - it is a pity that many politicians seem to forget this. Perhaps we are just unlucky in Hounslow but we seem to have many that are doing the wrong thing (and I won't even make the dig that Jason simply does nothing)

Ruth has always been a very conscientious councillor for Brentford, and I think that comment is way out of line. There is nothing stopping her standing for the council and being a parliamentary candidate, after all Tony Arbour holds about three political positions, and that dreadful man in Barnet, another Tory, did the same until he was made to step down. Or is it one rule for the Tories as per usual and another for everyone else?

Perhaps she has taken  a leaf out of Jason Ellar's book and decided that going forwards being a member of the council doesn't actually necessitate any time commitment
