Need sum Advice please

I have a Female friend who needs advice. She used to live hundreds of Miles away with a Guy and His Daughter bought him a dog. But They split up 3wks ago and she got a Message from Him and The daughter they don't want the dog and she could have him. So she drove to a Service Station in Exeter and met them and they handed the Dog over to her. But now because she doesn't want nothing 2 do with them they want the Dog back saying he belongs to them if she wants 2 keep him she has to give them £400 she has had him nearly 2wks now.As they gave her the Dog does this now mean he belongs to her?

Has the dog been chipped? She has done the best thing by reporting it to the police. I'd get the dog to a vet and microchip it a.s.a.p. if not done already.

She spoke to Police they said its a Civil matter, she has all the Message of U can keep dog 4 £400 and she has 2 Witnesses they gave the dog to her 2wks ago and 1 of those witnesses went with her. She drove from London to Exeter Service station at Night and They drove from St Austel Cornwall with the dog and handed him to her. But because she wont go back to the Violent controlling Ex he wants the Dog back. They think Because they got him from a Breeder and His name is on it and because The Pedigree certificate has his name on it he says its His. She hasn't stole him they gave him 2 her...Its all harassment and she has reported it to the Police now.

Has she still got the offer of the dog in writing? Or the demand for the money? That would help, but in any case in her shoes I'd tell them to sod-off, what are they going to do? The only thing they could do is go to the police or court neither of which I suspect would give them the time of day. If someone gives you something then it becomes yours, the fact they might change their mind later on is just tough, never mind then deciding to ask for money.
