Speculation, scaremongering and silliness!
Following the previous thread about the Council's possible zoning of Carville Hall North for redevelopment, I was inspired to plough the Borough's Local Plan. Having read it, I think there is nothing speculative or silly about the concerns raised by the WRAG on the TW8 website. Brentford residents have good reason to be worried about the significant redevelopment and housing planned for our area over the next 15 years, which is completely out of balance in terms of time frame, sustainability and local character. For example, the plan indicates that a significant proportion of the Borough's 12,330 housing target will be be based here. Concerns raised by residents in the June 2013 consultation have largely been dismissed. While no one believes that there should be no regeneration in the area, it has to be at a pace and quality that reflects the needs of existing residents and continues to support Brentford as a place that people want to live and settle. The Local Plan does little to assuage concerns that this is not just a great big yard sale of available plots of land to the highest bidder, at whatever cost to infrastructure and community. Perhaps if the WRAG had existed 10 years ago, we would not have to look at the appalling Skylon building, or whatever it is called, and the enormous new developments that have mushroomed in Brentford in the past few years.
