Age UK (Age Concern) Brentford closed? A new School site?

After the St Paul's School roof fire.. one heard reports that some expansion to other premises was being considered... and then there was the news that a new School was to be established in Commerce Road.What's the latest news?I visited the Age Concern premises in Albany Road today.. and found it all closed down and instead inhabited by Security people. They didn't have a new address.. or new location of the shop... to which I was to donate a fine set of China plates.What's become of the place?

Such a shame to lose that building it had such good access.So many buildings are difficult to get into when you are using a stick or a three-wheeled rollator as so many of the elderly I meet with seem to be.  Doors can be really heavy to open and hold open as you go through and as for steps without handrails...  Anybody would think that there was no Disability Discrimination Act.If you are finding that you can no longer visit somewhere - speak up because you are unlikely to be the only one.

Thanks for that information Paul. In a way I'm sorry to hear that that quaint shop is no more... with it's handy parking too... and I'll long remember that jolly chap (was it Ron?) who in recent years ran the little cafe and served delicious breakfast.Many folk went there just for his fish and chips on a Friday.He also knitted and sold for Charity little woollen holders for mobile phones in a variety of football team covers.Who remembers when there was a dental clinic on that site in the 1950s?It was a bit of a torture chamber with those laughing gas masks which terrified us youngsters.

Hi JimThe Brentford Charity Shop closed its doors on Wednesday 26th March just a few days before Age UK Hounslow closed its doors on Alexandra House. We do not currently have a replacement shop but we are working closely with the London Borough of Hounslow, and hope to announce a new shop home shortly. Feltham Shop: 10 Rochester Parade, High Street, TW13 4DXTel: 020 8831 9528 The Shops are staffed by a loyal band of volunteers and generate much-needed funds to develop the Charity's services. We are grateful to our volunteers for their efforts - we simply couldn't manage without them!
