I have and still use freecycle.com to forward on any useable household item I no longer want. The person who wants the item will pick it up. Plus it's free.

Is there a central noticeboard in these developments where information on who to call for free collection of large pieces of furniture can be pinned - there are seven furniture ones on the WLWA website (not sure they all collect free - you would need to check - and check what they want).  That might at least help residents to help themselves a bit more.  As soon as the management company is involved in disposal it becomes commercial waste - generally with an even bigger cost.http://westlondonwaste.gov.uk/reduce-waste/Or call them in to talk to your management company?I wish they would sell mattresses with a cover - just like you buy a sofa with a cover. They are so difficult to move and if they were felt to be cleaner people would reuse more.

I don't know Adam. Every now and then we get an encyclical from the management company saying it's streng verboten and in some cases (a manky mattress left in the lift lobby springs to mind) a grumpy note is attached but my guess is that nobody takes any notice and the management co end up paying someone to take it away, a bit like the council with flytipping I suppose.

What happens with that stuff Guy ?.  It's quite a problem at Holland Gardens because often new occupiers put large objects in the refuse areas, rather than paying £40 or so to LBH to collect such large objects.Never sure who foots the bill when this happens, I know in the past if the concierges know the flat where the objects came from then the owner/occupier gets told to take them back and sort out disposal themselves, but not so easy if the objects are dumped by a previous occupier when they move out etc.

It's amazing what gets 'recycled' in the basement recycling zones here at Ferry Quays. I have a rather good standard lamp and a really excellent chrome and glass TV table that I 'rescued'The manky mattresses and broken chests of drawers are a bit of a problem for the site managers though.

Don't take them, they're shortly to be moved to the Market Place as part of the vast public realm 'improvements' ;-)
