Local care agencies

Do you have any opinions about local care agencies looking after people in their own homes? If you don't want to post on here please send message directly but it would be nice to hear good as well as issues.   Thanks x

I hope you got some replies.The trouble with care agencies is that their staff tend to be over-timetabled so that they don't spend the allocated amount of time with the person requiring care.  So they race in and out without having any time to actually assess the situation when they walk in the door properly. In retrospect I think we might have been better off to have found a neighbour to spend more time with our parent.  A relation who had an Age UK home help had a very good relationship with her - much better than the ever-changing (unnecessary and despite requests) care agency staff. Too many different people and they write up their book at the end of the visit so don't read what the last person did until their visit is ending.Unfortunately when we did have an Age UK home help when a broken ankle meant no shopping could be done as soon as it was better the home help was said goodbye to despite our wish that she stay and help with the more arduous housework and errands. The continuity would have been good but it wasn't our home or life or decision to make.
