Rubbish/Recycling Collections

I think I must be confused does anyone have the answer?  I knew that the collection days for recycling and refuse were all over the place because of the Christmas and New Year breaks but this is my second week back at work and I had assumed that these collections would be back to normal this week.  I believed that the recycling was normally collected on Tuesday and rubbish on Wednesday but today is Thursday and both my recycling box and my rubbish are still parked up outside my home uncollected.  Judging by the amount of boxes and rubbish bags I have seen outside peoples houses in the area over the last few days I don't think I can be the only one who is confused.

Each collection day this week is ONE DAY AFTER your normal day.So those residents who normally have their refuse collected on Fridays..this week only it will be on Saturday. Next week things return to normal.Its a pity that the distribution of HM magazine is still suspect...as is indicated by your messages. In a perfect world everone would get the Magazine..and hopefully would flick through it. A Xmas and New Year Rubbish  Collection banner appeared on the front cover.But there does seem to be confusion as piles of black sacks litter the pavements in lots of places.On the street cleaning front I've noticed a great increase in the number of green bags being left at the side of the roadways for collection...indicating that the street being swept more keenly.

Bloody hell - praise indeed! As you know I am a civil servant and I am not always impressed (well hardly ever actually) with what passes for management in Government departments, BUT even at work we've had all the holidays and privilege days and dates published right round to next New Year, after all none of these holidays is exactly a state secret is it? As we've observed so many times before common sense really isn't that common.

John, I can't believe that Hounslow Council can't publish the holiday collection schedule for the year ahead. Let's face it we all know when the Bank Holidays are going to fall, and they could use several different methods, (the council's own staff used to deliver leaflets for the garden waste service on overtime), and you now have the option of putting it on the website, posters and leaflets in libraries/leisure centres/ public buildings and the local press and on sites like this too. Why have the continuing pantomime of only giving one set of dates just before each separate holiday - madness!

In past years refuse collection and recycling has taken place on Saturdays around Christmas and New Year in order to get back to normal as quickly as possible. This year, of course, the Saturdays were Christmas and New Year's Days. Hence the delay.HM and its predecessors have never been successful ways of advertising collection dates. My copy (when I receive one) is in the recycle box unread immediately it arrives. I don't think it is reasonable to expect residents to remember revised dates for several weeks after the holidays, and I believe the council needs to re-examine both how collections are organised and how residents are advised of date changes.

I never see it either - doesn't it strike people as ironic that the Council are trying to inform us about recycling measures in such an environmentally unfriendly way

I think I've only ever seen one issue, and the link on the front page of the hounslow website is now dead(on the right menu)Was HM quietly killed off?

I can't remember Notices on trees I must admit - but this HM magazine business is a farce, personally I think it's useless, I do hope whoever is responsible hasn't paid for the non-deliveries, what an almighty cock-up! Surely it is not beyond the wit of man to give ALL the holiday collection schedules for the coming year either though the press or a borough wide leaflet so we can stick it on the 'fridge, the RFU manage to give all the match details quite sucessfully in their leaflet.

The HM magazine seems to bypass my front door as well but i wont lose to much sleep over it.I am sure there once use to be posters on trees and lampposts which all residents use to read about these things in each street but perhaps my memory is fading,still sounds common sense to me,at least split black bags would not blight the area for days because nobody had a clue when the next collection would be.

Vanessa: Re HM magazine delivery...I haven't receive the Mag for 2 months..but the Editor has kindly sent me the Back copies. Next issue is due out in early Feb...we await.Regarding the refuse collections,I can understand the changes in collection dates due to the Bank Holidays and extra days off in lieu of weekends. I found the Hounslow Civic Centre website provided the data needed...and so there was no problem...for moi! or my neighbours.

I got mine from the front page of this link too, I hear that in their wisdom Councillors decided that HM magazine(that glossy waste of money) should be the preferred method of communicating the refuse dates because it "goes through every letter box in the borough". Er - hello, not through my letterbox it doesn't, and hasn't for ages, and from talking to a good many people they haven't had HM either! I did look in the local papers and didn't see any adverts like there ususally are, but having said that what sort of mentality have those people who were putting their rubbish out Christmas night and over the New Year Bank Holiday? Sometimes words really do fail me.

I found the details from the Front page of this web site!  - under calendar.  The collections are not back to normal until W/C 24th Jan.  Happy New Year Bernadette.
