This also connects with Sarah's last posting under "Is it something in the air?"After the gale, a telegraph pole was hanging over the laneway to my cottage, at an angle of about 40 degrees - just managed to scrape under it in my car.Rang Eircom, to be greeted by a robot (automatic reply/call it what you will), asking me for the exact reason I was calling....ten minutes later - me losing my temper and screaming at the robot kept causing "it" to say it didn't understand me!I slammed down the phone, rang Directory enquiries 11811 and asked to be put through to whoever dealt with faults...I was back again with my robot!Put down phone, rang 11811 again, told her there was a pole down across a road - gave her the address and said somebody could be killed, and again plonked down the phone, cutting her off while she was protesting that she couldn't handle a complaint. Minutes later, I received a call from our local Eircom engineers (yes, a human being)and a hour later the pole had been removed. In future, should a similar thing happen, I will phone either the police or 11811, but certainly not the Eircom "Emergency?" number.Progress, my .... (as they say in the Royale Family)!
