Get the graffiti artists to inscribe 'Sky' and 'PC World' on the wall .. it might save everyone’s time.

FANCY! ... a page 5 article (top of page 5, at that) facing you - as you turn the pages!'tis true, of course.  :-(The scribblers will soon descend upon the wall and if they don't get it from below, they will do those amazing acrobatic feats where they manage to write upside down from above - like they somehow manage on bridges.  We did think it would only be a short while until the company who owns the wall will THEN say - we want to sell advertising space along it BECAUSE it is an eyesore with the graffiti along it.Can't you just picture 'SKY' and 'PC WORLD' in super-neon lettering?  I bet there are sales people out now gauging the advertising potential of the Great wall, mingling alongside the vandals who are also surveying the space to put in their orders for spray paint!I had almost added to the original thread over Christmas.  The Great West Road was famed for its industry.  Now, like its nearby neighbour, Syon Lane, it is becoming a great big car park.Over Christmas everyone going along the road, for whatever reason, and it might just be from the airport into London, enjoyed the sight of the Christmas trees and lights.  The posting I was going to add was a bit about whether anyone had suggested to the developers that they might like to donate the money they saved on Christmas this year, to the Rotary Club, for their Christmas work?

Sarah,Many thanks for the clipping from the BCT, and thanks too to Paul for explaining about the "Berlin Srawl" - I remember Jim's postings - it was around about the time I first cottoned on to this glorious Forum!Poor old Firestone's ... I'm kinda glad I don't have to drive past the new hideous wall/car park/and glass boxes.

Dearest Paul, I hope we have been given re-speckt-able citizen titles to reflect our standing ..  are we now the local spokes-people?.... hang on, I'd better read the article in the paper first!

We should all feel ashamed!!..that we have allowed the Berlin Wall to rise from what was once green lawns in front of a hitherto Brentford Heritage site.Be certain that the Chiswick Forum would have been up in arms if such a monstrousity had been on their patch. The pugnacious battalions, their supporters,fly-swotters and all would have filled the W4 cyberspace forum such vemon ..that even Ann Keen or Alan Sherring's would have been aroused from their positions of disdain.Could a Brentford or Syon Councillor explain to us how this Berlin Wall came to be approved? Otherwise we'll all remain in the dark.Now if they plan to have professional Trompe d'oeil paintwork on the blank wall..we might forgive them.

Hi AnnJim first reported the fact that a developer had started to build a big wall in front of old Firestone site.I took photos of it and posted them on the forum, I also made some comments about it, calling it the “Berlin Wall”.Sarah also made some comments about it as well and we all kept an eye on what was going on.But today there’s an article in the Brentford Chiswick & Isleworth Times about it with the headline “Berlin Scrawl “quoting Sarah and me, Apparently some residents think the finished wall not only looks grotesque but will provide a big blank canvas for the local graffiti artists to have fun and games on.I know Firestone has been pull down but the old fence, Gate Houses and the rolling green up to the front were still there, but now you are left with a massive high wall standing about six foot in from the old fence, the lovely old green gone and the Gate Houses have also disappeared. Whoever was responsible for granting that particular part of the development on that site, must have worn blinkers when looking over the plans.Hold on! Jim got me going on this in the first place, Now Ann’s got me to war path again, now its Ann & Jims fault :o)

Come on, Paul - this is most unfair to we ex-pats - what's in the local rag about our Sarah?  How is Jim connected to whatever it is?A reply before bedtime please, or I shan't sleep a wink!
