Lucky with local restaurants

We are lucky to have good restaurants in Brentford.  Siracusa is well worth a visit, excellent pizzas and outdoor space Chiswick would die for.  La Rosetta never fails to please and Sami's is becoming more and more popular.  No buses or taxis needed.

It opened a couple of weeks ago with seemingly no publicity. Given the fate of other restaurants around there I wish it well.

Yes Gerhard was a chef at the Waldorf Astoria from its opening until April last year when he took over The Griffin.  It was after his departure that the hotel was downgraded to a Hilton.As Kath said, Sunday lunches are excellent at £11.95 and I don't think you would find better quality or value.  The Wednesday evening supper club offers a choice of 2 3 course menus for £16.95 (no extra service charges) and the pub has a reasonable selection of wines.  Highly recommended.

Not that I'm biased or anything but the Griffin offers a superb Sunday lunch with meat from Macken's and oodles of vegetables and gravy.Plus their Wednesday night Supper Club, with 3 courses for £16 is excellent quality.

Keith I think it ia a little unfair to accuse La Trompette of pretention, over-pricing and showiness. I can think of a lot of cheap places that simply do not represent value for money when you take everything into account.And the problem with 'value for money Brentford' is that for a lot of people there is simply no where for them to spend their money. The High Street seems ot be full of betting shops, nail salons and overpriced 'convenience' stores. Whilst these certainly could not be accused of displayinbg pretention ?I do think that Brentford deserves better.

Have you tried the coach and horses on Syon Lane just past Syon House Park.  I really like it there - the staff are great and the food very good.  It's really nice in the Summer with lots of outside space and very cosy in the Winter.I have to say for those happy to get the bus up to Chiswick Road - the Roebuck has superb quality meat.  The Sunday roast is £15 but it really is worth it if you are a meat eater

Obviously a discerning diner James.  Have you tried Marco Pierre White at the Syon Hotel? I haven't, but at least you would be supporting the Brentford economy.  I too enjoy high end dining on occasions, but the local ones give very good value and they need our support.

We also love Sami`s and its great value for the excellent food servedWe went to Pincho in Twickenham Saturday evening and had a great meal and it was less then £55 for two tapas starters and main meals plus a decent bottle of red wine

You would find it hard to beat Sami's for value for money imo. The food is also a very good standardI actaully like the simplicity of the decor...there is no pretentiousness or showiness about it.And they are attentive and accomodating staff.What's to dislike?

Carolyn - you are right they are all in either Chiswick or Kew and they are more expensive but in my view still represent better for money.You should also try the reopened Brackenbury in Ravenscourt Park - a neighbourhood restaurant we can all dream about!

Yes Siracusa  at Brentford Lock is a delightful Italian spot...table cloths and semi silver service... but perhaps remember to take your own soup spoon along as they don't have any available to diners!

What Sami's lacks in decor it makes up for in quality of food a hundred times over.

I very much like Siracusa. it has improved a great deal.I rarely go to Sami's but enjoy it when I do and I know plenty who use their takeaway/delivery service and are ecstatic.If you are a supporter of Brentford FC you are entitled to become a member of BIAS, the supporters' organisation for a princely £1pcm and your membership entitles you to 25% off Siracusa and 15% off Sami's Spice, as well as other discounts. Carolyn you have obviously been much luckier than me - Siracusa is ok for pizza (in the abscence of a FRanco Mangia or Pizza Express) but wouldn't recommend it for much else. Sammi's always feels like your eating in a greasy spoon cafe. Sadly still nothing that can compete with La Trompette, Vinotteca or The Glass House.
