Once again Labour is scaremongering about the NHS
The Labour Party, as usual, has so little positive to say that it is now once again scaremongering about the NHS alleging that the Government wishes to close the A&E service at Charing Cross Hospital. Nothing could be further from the truth.Way back when we had a Labour Government, NHS North London originally proposed to downgrade Charing Cross Hospital to little more than a glorified GP's surgery like Chiswick Health Centre.Labour Controlled Hounslow Council originally supported these plans perhaps because it favours the West Middlesex Hospital over Charing Cross Hospital. This is of course completely wrong- we need both.However these original plans were rejected by the local Chiswick Conservative Councillors at a meeting of the Chiswick Area Forum in October 2012 which passed a motion to that effect. Local Conservatives believe that the retention of A&E at Charing Cross and the West Middlesex is essential and have continued to make representations to that effect through our local Conservative MP, Mary Macleod, to the Conservative Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt MP. The Secretary of State is far more likely to listen to Conservative MP's and Councillors on this issue than to Labour ones. Thanks to pressure from local Conservatives and others, the NHS now proposes that, far from being down-graded, Charing Cross will become a world class centre for elective surgery and remain an important A&E centre. This is a vast improvement on the original proposals. These changes are supported by clinicians and by local GP's and by those who have taken the trouble to examine the proposals in detail. These proposals will save lives and lead to an improvement both in elective surgery and in A&E services. Charing Cross Hospital will get the long term investment it badly needs and Brentford residents will continue to be able to avail of its services. The Labour Party should stop alarming and worrying local residents by spreading false rumours about Charing Cross Hospital in an attempt to hide Labour's poor record on the NHS when it was in power and to trick people into voting Labour at the Borough Elections on Thursday.The Labour Party has nothing to offer Brentford residents except the possible downgrading and reduction in size of Chiswick Library following on from Labour's totally heartless and unnecessary closure of the much loved and very vital Chiswick Day Centre a few years ago. If you want to save Charing Cross Hospital and Chiswick Library, vote Conservative !
