Maydek Kitchens

I've visited this showroom a couple of times and liked what I've seen. However, I've just read a couple of very poor reviews on line and wondered if anyone has any experience - good or bad - they'd like to share with me about this company and its service? Probably best to PM me if your experience was less than wonderful. Thanks

Whilst you were left in a "very bad position and situation by Zwirn" and all the "issues he solely created through manipulation and terror", you seem oblivious to, or ignorant of, Maydek customers who lost money and didn't get what they paid for. There were many critical reviews posted about Maydek over the past two years and surely you were aware of these, or should have been as a sleeping partner. It has taken us eighteen months to get a full refund. Because we had paid by credit card and had protection under Section 75 we applied to HSBC and then theFinancial Ombudsman Service. At about the time the FOS ruled we should get a refund, Maydek conveniently went into liquidation. I would tell prospective kitchen buyers to think twice before giving this phoenix Company your business.

PERSONALLY I WOULD KEEP WELL AWAY FROM THESE COWBOYS OR YOU WILL HAVE ONE BIG HEADACHE ALSO I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE COMPANY MAGNET ON THE GREAT WEST ROAD ON THE A4 THEY ARE BRILLIANT WITH PROFESSIONAL TRADESMEN. I VISITED MAYDEK ONCE AND I KNEW INSTANTLY THEY ARE COWBOYS AND THE SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE AND I WOULD NEVER GO BACK .MAYDEK IS THE TYPE OF COMPANY THAT WOULD TAKE YOUR MONEY THEN IGNORE YOU.

Dear all above,I fully understand your concerns however I would like to clarify some facts due to various accusations and inaccurate assumptions. Harper Kitchens is a brand new company which was established in September/October 2014. It is true Maydek Kitchens previously was located at these premises. That company consisted of 2 Directors, one of which solely managed the day to day operations, Derek Zwirn, there was no active involvement from the later who was a silent partner and equally left in a very bad position and situation by Zwirn. Due to extensive and severe problems caused by the managing director and all the issues he solely created through manipulation and terror, the company disbanded. Harper Kitchens, run by myself and my own team with a successful track record in home building, construction, engineering and interiors have opened. If you have any questions or would like to see how we operate, please feel free to visit. We are not the same company, people and most certainly do not operate in such a manner.

Please be aware, as Guy Lambert and Chris Broadbent have previously pointed out, Harper Kitchens is essentially a rebrand of Maydek with one of Maydek’s Directors, Gyan Singh, owning one third of the new Company’s shares. If you have lost money to Maydek or not had what you paid for, report your experiences to your local Trading Standards Officer or e-mail BBC’s “Watchdog” programme.

So Harper Kitchen's is essentially a rebrand of Maydek without the Zwirn's and with one of the old Maydek Director's owning one third of the new company's shares.I wonder who from Maydek / Harper Kitchens Ruth Cadbury invited to her 'Gala' Dinner?

Maydek had two directors - Mr Gian Singh Kharaud and Mr Derek Andrew Zwirn.Shareholders were Gian Kharaud (21%); Amarpal Kharaud (15%); Pavan Kharaud (15%); Derek Zwirn (24%); Andrew Zwirn (25%)Harper Kitchens appears to have only one director, Mr Amarpal Singh Kharaud.Shareholders are Amarpal Kharaud (50 shares); Jagtar Singh Basra (100 shares); Pavan Singh Kharaud (50 shares); Gyan Singh Kharaud (100 shares)

Maydek petitioned to wind up on the 23rd July 2014. There were many adverse reviews of this Company and its aggressive MD Derek Zwirn posted online, most of which were swiftly removed. Our experience of him is the same as yours - once he took our money, he couldn't have cared less. and as for consumer rights, as far as he was concerned, we didn't have any. He described all his kitchens as "bespoke", even when they weren't and were obviously bog standard and, by describing them in this way,he thought to deprive Maydek customers of all their cancellation rights. We are still fighting through our credit card provider for a refund and would urge you and others like you that have fallen foul of Derek Zwirn to pursue a refund by any means available to you.It would be interesting to know who the directors of the new Company are and if any were Directors of Maydek.

I see this morning that Maydek is no more. The showrooms on the right hand side (walking towards the river) appear to be closed and the ones on the left are now Harper Kitchens.Wonder if it's the same people, and what happened to Maydek.

Walking past the showrooms today, they looked a bit depleted - my impression is there are a lot of spaces where there used to be appliances. Perhaps they are having a revamp, or perhaps something else is going on.

I would like to know if Maydek Kitchens are still in business. We had a frightful experience when we wanted to cancel an order and asked for a refund of our deposit. This was because we had a series of failed or late appointments with Derek who just did not turn up or kept us waiting at the showroom. No other staff could answer any queries in his absence and we got the feeling the company could not deliver. Instead of any apology or taking responsibility for the shoddy service, Derek was really rude. He shouted and bellowed so much he actually shook .... my daughter was afraid he would have a fit! Finally, we only managed to get about 50% of a large deposit back, but decided best to cut our losses and never went back. We had legitimate grounds for a complaint and wish we had taken the time and effort to pursue a full refund. The showroom looked good, but stay clear because the owner Derek has no concept of customer service once he has taken your money.

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! - we have like others been left without a kitchen after paying '000s for goods from them We have now been without a kitchen for 10 weeks and no sign of a lot of our kitchen (Worktops, appliances, doors etc.) Please read another recent review on Google which states a similar experience. I do not wish others to go through the pain we are still going through so even if Derek promises you a cheaper kitchen - pay the extra and go with an established trusted company.

Jane, we posted the review warning people to steer clear of this Company and I would advise you to go to one of the well-established kitchen companies. Our whole experience with this Company has been a consumer nightmare.

Hello Rob,We posted one of the warnings about Maydek and we sympathise with you. We found the whole experience with them a consumer nightmare. Derek Zwirn and Maydek are currently being investigated by the Financial Ombudsman and we will forward your review to them and thank you for posting it. We are hopeful of obtaining a full refund but it's been a lot of hassle. The more people that know about Maydek the better. We rejected their kitchen and went to Wickes Twickenham(Jag) and they were so helpful and efficient and we have a great kitchen now. My daughter used DIY Kitchens for a modern kitchen. Fantastic service, really good product and very helpful. I'd definitely recommend them :)http://www.diy-kitchens.co.uk/

We visited and didn't like the fact that there were no prices on anything - on the basis if you have to ask you can't afford it we didn't bother. Anyway, far too modern for me, I wanted the more traditional look, we ended up with a place I found online called DIY kitchens in Yorkshire, went up for a couple of days to look at the various kitchens and found just what we wanted. They couldn't have been more helpful, but although the units were delivered ready made my husband fitted them, luckily he's very practical. Quality and service superb.

Yes, I'm looking for a kitchen right now. I liked the look of one I saw in Maydek but I must confess a couple of (very) negative reviews on Google have made me hesitate. I'd love to hear from anyone who's bought a kitchen from them and been happy with the experience. Complaints in the reviews I read were about missing parts on delivery, poor planning experience etc. Seems to me the quality of the mid-range kitchens they offer is fine and prices look good. But should I be cautious?

Were they talking about the quality of the kitchen units or the fitting?In my experience there isn't a lot of difference in the units now (unless one goes for the absolute cheapest). Most have sturdy carcases and german door and drawer fittings (Blum etc) so they are built to last.Poor planning and fitting cause the most problems.Are you thinking of buying a kitchen currently?
