I see what you mean Adam, but it does make me wonder why we have conservation areas and planning regulations that restrict some things like loft conversions which result in poor visual designs and poor utilisation of space, but allow something that visually impedes what is otherwise a rather nice view of a row of terraced houses and a park.I'm not anti solar panels, but I've been on sites where some types are almost identical to slate tiles and other designs which look fine on an ultra modern contemporary structure but grate badly on older buildings. But locally there has recently been some real damage to the items that the conservation area is supposed to protect. The butchering of the Lateward Memorial gates in St Pauls Park, the removal of bespoke designed lamposts, and several other small but significant items of local history and character. If planning cannot stop clearly unsuitable installations due to poor govt' directives.Who can?Who can ensure that items in conservation areas are protected?I might add that in every case, it has been LBH contracts that have done the deed! But no-one seems to care or be able to do anything - until it's too late.
