Yes, doesn't it make sense, already St Pauls are running out of space for infants, so what will happen when they are ready for secondary education ?

Nearly all of our primary schools have now expanded and some have almost doubled in size. Most secondary schools also have plans to expand but it will still not meet the demand. That is why Hounslow head teachers are being active in this project. They are determined to ensure that there are enough places for Hounslow's young people.

Ho,ho,ho I doubt that! It does wind me up though that this lot talk about localism but are forcing the 'free school' malarkey on everyone. Interestingly there was a government document recently concerned with school governance which in actual fact was very broad and did take account of a very wide range of opinion, what struck me was the conclusion that governor training was best done by local authorities! There are many things that local authorities are much better suited to - housing is another.

"Mr.Gove's and his colleagues phobia about local authorities."Surely they can relax now, now that you're 'off the scene' Vanessa :-)

Won't it also be the case that most of our secondaries are going to have to look at some expansion along with this proposal? Although some have spaces now that is unlikely to be the case in a couple of years. It is a great pity that the only route, as you say,is via the 'free school' route, fed I suspect by Mr.Gove's and his colleagues phobia about local authorities.
You are right Kim and there seems to be little money from government to fund new secondary schools except by the free school route. That is why Hounslow headteachers have decided to make this bid for a secondary free school in the Brentford area. Otherwise there will be a real shortage of places and secondary pupils will be travelling long distances to find a school. Our proposals need the support of everybody - so look at the hipeducation.org.uk website - Roger
