Brentford Out Of Johnstone’s Paint Trophy

Norwich 1 Brentford 0

Brentford failed to reach the second round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy as they lost 1-0 to Norwich at Carrow Road.

Andy Scott was forced to re-shuffle his defence with Kevin O’Connor reverting to his old right back position with Danny Foster on the left. Karleigh Osborne and Leon Legge, making his Brentford debut, in the centre.

With an unfamiliar back four Brentford struggled to get into the game early on as Norwich pressed constantly and Steve Kabba was a mere spectator as every Bees clearance was taken by a Norwich player.

Lewis Price nearly gifted Norwich a goal when a fluffed kick from outside the area fell to Tom Adeyemi whose shot was destined for the net until Karleigh Osborne got back to clear the ball with a yard or two to spare.

It was no surprise that Norwich did take the lead on the half-hour mark through Chris Martin, who scored in the final last year, with a curling shot which went in off the post.

The Bees woke up and started to get into the game and started to put the Norwich defence under pressure with some crosses that Ben Alnwick, in the Norwich goal, struggled to get all night.

In the second half Brentford went searching for the equaliser and Marcus Bean came close with a bullet header from a Saunders corner.

The defence looked much improved with Leon Legge winning everything in the air and looked very impressive on his first appearance for The Bees. Karleigh Osborne also impressed keeping a cool head alongside the debutant.

Brentford continued to press forward and Marcus Bean attempted a Maradona ‘Hand of God’ which was correctly penalised and Bean received a deserved booking. Brentford failed to find an equaliser and as Brentford went out of the JPT leaving the League and the FA Cup to focus on.
