Brentford Scrapes A Win in JPT Trophy

Leyton Orient 0 - Brentford 0 (4-5 penalties)

Richard Lee again saved the decisive spotkick as Brentford edged Tuesday's JPT tie at Leyton Orient.

The game itself finished 0-0 with Orient probably having the better of the chances - Jonathon Tehoue almost nicking the win at the death with two efforts that went narrowly wide.

Pim Balkestein - playing at right back - had earlier put in an excellent last ditch tackle when Matthew Spring looked set to score. Jimmy Smith then saw a goalbound effort blocked by Richard Lee's legs.

Sam Wood saw a decent free kick saved in the first half, whilst Forster and Adams also had half chances for the Bees.

With the scores level at the end of full time, Brentford took and scored their first five penalties through Forster, Hunt, Saunders, Alexander and Woodman.

Spring was then denied by Richard Lee - the hero against Everton a fortnight ago - as Brentford won the shootout 5-4.

Brentford now progress to the Southern area quarter final - opposition to be drawn this Saturday.

Bees - Lee, Pim, Legge, McCracken, Woodman, Adams (Hudson), Bean (Hunt), Dave (Saunders), Wood, Alexander, Forster

Brentford manager Andy Scott said after the match

"That was the most horrific game I have been involved in.The quality was terrible.

"It was a very, very poor game and I feel very sorry for the people who turned up, I'm glad some missed it.

"We are fortunate to go through.

"I'm delighted we went straight to penalties, I couldn't have watched another 30 minutes."
