Three Points And An Encouraging Start to the Season

Brentford 2 - Yeovil 0

OMG! I could stop there really.

It was stunning, all the talk you've heard about pre-season performances or even went along to watch will pale into comparison with the performance the lads put on against Yeovil.

Yeovil themselves are a decent team and play some lovely football but we outclassed them throughout.

Considering our play the manner of our two goals were a bit odd. One a hotly contested penalty given for handball. The lino was adamant. It was a hands in the air job so maybe they were contesting whether it was in the box - my good eyes [the bloke next to me] says it was! Alexander coolly dispatched it for one nil.

The second goal came after much superb play and was scuffed across the keeper and in off the post by Logan.

So two nil up and MacDonald ready to come off the bench and what do we do? You'd think a straight swap wouldn't you. Oh no, take off McGinn and go 4-3-3! And we should have bagged three more after that. Donaldson got to the far post a little too late to bang one in, MacDonald created an opening for himself but his shot was too wide of the far post and Alexander showed great skill to beat his man tight in the box but his flick went high and over the bar. To be fair the chance looked easier than it was but he'd done all the hard work and will be as disappointed as the crowd.

A massively long standing ovation at the final whistle was well deserved.

My man of the match was Logan, absolute class throughout. No duff performances from anyone and loads of quality throughout. A special mention for Woodman, not just the usual steady eddie performance for him. Always in space and always found his man - probably because, unlike previously, there were men available.

Great stuff!

Lee; Logan, Osborne, Eger, Woodman; Weston (sub Saunders 58 mins), Douglas, Reeves (sub O'Connor 81 mins), McGinn (sub MacDonald 72 mins); Donaldson, Alexander
