Pandemic Spoons to Be Exhibited at Boston Manor House

A collection of spoons that were created during the Covid-19 pandemic as a way of helping people engage with and support neighbours and local friends, is to be exhibited.
The original idea for the Brentford Spoon Project came from local artist Claire Ireland who invited people to make spoons in clay. The concept took hold a spread further afield and included artists and makers working in different disciplines.
Clare ended up with a collection of diverse and eclectic handmade spoons, created in a variety of different materials and made by over 100 participants.
She has now been invited to exhibit collection at the newly renovated Jacobean Manor House in Boston Manor Park.
The show is scheduled to begin in Easter 2024 and will be on show in the house’s large exhibition space for six months. Built in 1623 it is one of the earliest examples of British Renaissance style in London, surrounded by ancient cedar trees, a restored walled garden, and 34 acres of parkland, the largest green open space in Brentford.
A grant of £1,000.00 from Hounslow’s Thriving Communities Fund has been given to cover the costs of the lightweight aluminium panels that will be used to display all the work.
There will be artists talks and tours throughout the show with plans for a creative collage workshop for children and a ceramic spoon workshop for adults.
Claire says, “It has been worth the wait as this wonderful location is the perfect setting for the Brentford Spoon Project with an estimated 10,000.00 visitors coming to the house and park while the show is on, what more can you ask for!”
