Eight Green Flags commemorates the commitment and hard work shown
The Friends of Boston Manor are delighted that the park has yet again won a Green Flag to show that it is still a park of excellence. A number of trustees of the Friends group, two Green Flag inspectors and representatives from JLIS the land managers recently toured the site. Linda Massey who was among the entourage said that she was surprised that the results were given so quickly. We knew that we had impressed the judges by the work that we had undertaken to help improve the amenities but until you get that call you never know exactly how they are thinking.
The pavilion cafe run by volunteers is now open 7 days per week throughout August (except bank holidays) 10-4. A tennis camp is running from 10.00 a.m. Monday to Friday to help keep boredom at bay and the park really is lovely just to hang out in – maybe bring a picnic.
Not settling with funding and installing lighting to the tennis courts, the new outdoor gym equipment, tennis table and “spider” but the Friends are now talking about putting in a petanque terrain (boules to you and me). With the help of volunteers they are also clearing the old allotment site with a view to putting in a community orchard before the year is out.
It is also on schedule for Hounslow Council to replace the existing children’s play area before the year is out with bigger and better. If you have a view on what you would like to see happening in the park then you are welcome to share these with the volunteers in the café who really do make things happen.
This year, St John’s Gardens and Feltham Park join Beaversfield Park, Bedfont Lakes Country Park, Boston Manor Park, Crane Park, Hanworth Park and Turnham Green in winning the prestigious Green Flag status.
