Change Sweeping Across Brentford with Uwe Rösler

Uwe comes across as a smart impassioned man who will inject the Brentford squad with energy and enthusiam, along with some good discipline. The news of his appointment was met with words of positive delight from City fans and if supporters' approval is anything to go by, we're onto a winner.

The club already feels invigorated with change in the air and it will be an interesting season, whatever happens. Uwe wants to finish in at least the top 10, in contention for the play-offs.. Supporters know that Brentford doesn't do them (or hasn't) and would much prefer to go straight up, but a more realistic expectation is to move up the league table, or as Uwe put it, "let's do better than last year".

Uwe has spent the last six months since returning to England after leaving Molde watching league one and two football so is up to date with our league and the players in it. He sees Brentford as an ambitious and interesting club to work with, with a good solid foundation with hardworking and honest players with a good spirit.

We have 17 players on contract and Uwe would like a squad of 22-23 players. No decisions will be made about existing players until he has seen them all in pre-training which starts at the end of this month, although he has of course been looking at the videos of this season. He is looking to improve all areas of the squad, although he seems happy with our goalkeepers He has two he is hoping to sign by the end of the month and two more in the pipeline who will hopefully get signed before they go to Norway for 5 days training on the 8th July.

It was Uwe's decision to not re-sign Grabban once his contract had expired. He has two players he is hoping to sign by the end of the month before pre-season training starts on the 27th June and two more in the pipeline who will hopefully get signed before they go to Norway for 5 days training on the 8th July. Norway is in the middle of its season so the squad will be playing opposition at peak fitness with similar style football.  This will culminate in a friendly with Strommen on the 12th behind closed doors and he will be making use of training facilities provided by Lillestrom, one of his previous clubs with whom he has maintained good relationships.

Uwe intends to build on what is in place, developing a team that is very hard to beat, that works as a unit, is flexible and can mix up our game and control it. "You can only control games when you have the ball. He played 442 in diamond formation and then 4231 in Norway; he will play what gets the best out of the players and it very much depends on the strikers.

The first round of the Carling Cup against Hereford away gives us a chance to go further. "We will take this cup seriously, it's a great opportunity to show ourselves and eventually to play against a higher league clubs".

He is bringing in a first team coach and assistant manager, hopefully within the next week and will work along the already existing medical, fitness and analysis teams put in place by Mark Warburton.

He wore shorts at Molde, promising to keep wearing them until they lost but they didn't lose and his last game there was surrounded by 10 cm of snow, not exactly shorts weather.

Uwe would like to communicate regularly with Brentford supporters and give them the opportunity to question not just him but the other senior members of staff as well as players. Hopefully therefore fans forums will be back on a regular basis. He clearly believes in good strong relationships with the supporters, recognising the value of their role within a club, with a desire to play entertaining football to watch rather than 'just' winning football. Three points per game as well as enjoyable football would feel like Christmas every match!

PS He hasn't been to the Griffin yet though.
