Women’s football will take centre stage in Brentford this May as World Sevens Football (W7F) stages its first-ever London Edition, a three-day tournament at Brentford FC’s Gtech Community Stadium from 28–30 May. The event will feature eight Barclays Women’s Super League clubs competing in a high-tempo 7-a-side format, ahead of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup Final at Wembley the following day.
Following successful editions in Estoril, Portugal, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the London tournament marks the next step in W7F’s expansion, combining elite football with festival-style entertainment. The format — 7v7 on a reduced grass pitch, 30-minute matches, rolling substitutions — is designed to keep the pace relentless while managing player load. A $1.5 million prize pool and a packed weekend of music, culture and storytelling promise a showcase of skill and atmosphere unlike any other.
Villa’s Managing Director Maggie Murphy said that the event’s innovative format “brings a different kind of energy to the game” and offers “a great opportunity to be part of something a little different in the women’s game.”
Manchester United Women and Aston Villa Women are the first clubs confirmed. United’s Director of Football Operations Ameesh Manek said the team “really enjoyed” last year’s tournament and looks forward to “an exciting finale to the season.”
The Gtech Community Stadium — host to UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 fixtures and the upcoming FIFA Women’s Champions Cup — provides a modern setting that keeps fans close to the action. Across three days, supporters will enjoy back-to-back fixtures, live entertainment and a family-friendly festival atmosphere celebrating the depth and creativity of the women’s game.
Tickets go on exclusive pre-sale for W7F and Brentford subscribers at 10 am on 13 April, with general sale from 10 am on 14 April at worldsevens.com. Passes are available for individual days or as a three-day package.
Further club announcements and broadcast details will follow in the coming weeks.
