Get Set for The Brentford Festival This Sunday

Organiser Linda Massey tells of the challenges faced and what is planned for the day

Get Set for The Brentford Festival This Sunday

Two steps forward and I don’t know how many back.

I could be described as an old hand at this organising events lark but have to say that I have been up against it the last few weeks. Just when I think I have got everything in place something happens and I am back to square one. That said I believe that we have now overcome the hiccups and ready to put on the BRENTFORD FESTIVAL 2022 in Sunday 4 September.

The flyer has been completed and 14,000+ copies have already been distributed through letterboxes. Thank you to Helene Engrande for stepping forward to illustrate this for us.

After 4 months of thinking our regular MC was going to be with us again we learnt that he will be otherwise engaged on the day. This time I thank in advance Rob Russell who has stepped in to the breach. Rob has been helping us with the festival organising for many years so we are delighted that he has volunteered to help us out as an avid Brentford FC supporter I guess they are not playing that day. Another person from the team who has stepped up is Hazel Chesters who will be stroking the brows of the artists as stage manager for the main stage.

We have been very fortunate throughout the year to have young people doing their Duke of Edinburgh awards working within the new pavilion for the Blondin Consortium. At least eight of them have volunteered to come and work the festival – their CV’s should look amazing.

To give the event a community feel, the day will open with a 2 minute dance routine from the ladies who have been practicing in the new Pavilion. I wanted to call them the Dancing Belles but probably need to call them by their real title EPA Adult Dance. The organiser of this troupe will be starting a new programme on Sundays in September called Ballet Bums (leotards not needed). The Northfield Morris will then jingle their way into a performance. I know they had been practicing a new dance called the Blondin Diamond but not sure if this is the routine that they will show. Other demonstrations throughout the day will include Zumba, Tai Chi and circuit training.

We have signed up an excellent variety of musicians to perform on the stage. They were all due to play at the 2020 cancelled event so we are delighted that they at last have the opportunity to show everyone what they can do.
