Cathy Tyson

BAFTA/Golden Globe nominated actor Cathy Tyson is starring as a homeless woman in a new play which runs at the Tara Theatre in Garrett Lane, Earlsfield, from February 7-11.

She Called Me Mother features Tyson, (Mona Lisa with Bob Hoskins, Band of Gold) in a new play by Michelle Inniss, written following an encounter with a Big Issue vendor at London Bridge Station.

Cathy plays Evangeline, a homeless woman who shares with us her journey from Trinidad to the streets of London and the challenges her life has brought. Will the daughter who walked out on her all those years ago ever return?

Cathy and Michelle were at school together in the 1970s and set up Pitch Lake Productions in 2015 to stage plays with meaty lead roles for mid career actresses. She Called Me Mother, which also features Shereen Buckley, is the company’s first production and comes to Tara Theatre from 7-11 February.

It’s part of Tara Theatre’s Spring season featuring an eclectic mix of music, theatre, dance and comedy. 2017 will see Tara celebrate two milestone anniversaries – the 70th anniversary of India and Pakistan’s independence, which will be marked with 70 events over the course of the year under the banner #tara7070, and Tara’s own 40th anniversary.
