Man and woman seriously injured by lorry door

Police are appealing for information and witnesses after two people sustained serious injuries in a fail-to-stop collision in West London.

A man and a woman both received head injuries when the door of a container carried on the back of a heavy goods vehicle swung open and hit them.

The accident happened in Market Place, Acton, at 2050 hours on Wednesday 22nd February.

Police believe the lorry, with the possible registration L271JVH, turned right into Market Place from High Street, Acton, and was traveling north towards Horn Lane when the accident happened.

After hitting the pair, the door swung open further and struck a lamppost. The driver stopped, got out, shut the rear container door and then drove off north towards Horn Lane. The vehicle was last seen northbound along Horn Lane heading towards the A40.

The pedestrians, who were on the pavement when they were struck, were taken to hospital. The female pedestrian is recovering well, but the male pedestrian sustained serious head, skull and facial injuries and is now in a stable but serious condition.

The vehicle is described as a four axle rigid body with what is commonly known as a roll on/off container on the rear. The cab of the HGV is bright green and at the time of the collision the lorry was carrying a red, open top container body with the words 'Biffa' set against a white background on both sides.

Police are anxious to trace both the lorry and its driver. Witnesses or anybody with information should call Alperton Traffic Garage on 0208 998 5319.
