Minister in Brentford for Volunteer Week

Ed Miliband joins Ann Keen at St. Paul's Church

As part of an event to mark the start of Volunteer Week a leading Government Minister has joined Ann Keen in helping out at a local not-for profit café.

Ann joined with the Minister, Ed Miliband MP, Parliamentary Secretary at the Cabinet Office with responsibility for the third sector and volunteering, at the Open House Café at St Paul’s church in Brentford. The Cafe is a not-for-profit organisation providing affordable healthy food to people in the community as well as volunteering opportunities for people with mental health and employment problems.

She said, “I was able to meet with many volunteers who had come into volunteering for a wide variety of reasons. It was a splendid time we spent together and there was a great atmosphere at the Open House Café. I have always had highest regard for people who put themselves forward for voluntary work and always take every opportunity to meet with as many volunteers as possible in constituency. They do so much to help. I hope week encourages more people to volunteer and take part in their communities.”

The MP and the Minister worked as volunteers, helping to serve meals and assisting in the café as well as clearing tables.

Mr. Miliband was just one of several Cabinet Office Ministers who are joining thousands of people who give their time and energy to benefit of others. Throughout Volunteers' Week the Government will be taking part in celebrating the huge contribution that volunteers make to our society.

Volunteers' Week is organised by Volunteering England and its partners. For more information about the entire week visit: http://www.volunteersweek.org.uk
