Former Watchdog Presenter Considering Brentford & Isleworth Constituency

Lynn Faulds Wood could stand against Ann Keen MP in general election

Another hat could be thrown into the political arena after Lynn Faulds Wood announced she was considering following Esther Rantzen's lead and stand for election.

The Twickenham based broadcaster and chairwoman of the European Cancer Patient Commission previously said that the expenses scandal was behind her decision to stand as a candidate but she would not consider standing Brentford and Isleworth or Feltham and Heston if Ann and Alan stood down.

However, last month the Brentford and Isleworth Labour party gave their backing to Ann Keen as their candidate for the next general election quashing suggestions of deselection.

Ms Faulds Wood is now said to be considering standing as an Independent candidate against either Ann or Alan Keen but has ruled out her husband and fellow broadcaster John Stapleton joining her on the campaign trail.

Although not yet officially a candidate, Ms Faulds Woods pledged that she would not be seeking a second home in central London if she was elected, a statement echoed yesterday by Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Mary Macleod who pledged to “abide by the standards that politicians expect others to live by” adding, “I am giving local residents a clear choice between Ann Keen and I. One of the key differences will be on our approach to expenses.”

With Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate Andrew Dakers and Lynn Faulds Woods waiting in the wings, it could turn out to be a four horse race for the Brentford and Isleworth Constituency.
