Local Pupil Awarded at House of Commons

Ann Keen hails academic star as "an inspiration to our community"

Local GCSE student Yoni Denis has been recognised at the Black Child Academic Achievement Awards earlier this month.

Yoni from Isleworth & Syon School made the final shortlist for this year’s awards, which celebrate top achieving black students. The annual event took place at the House of Commons on 2nd October and he was congratulated personally by his local MP Ann Keen.

Ann Keen said, “ I would like to congratulate Yoni Denis on his fantastic achievement! He is a great credit to his school and an inspiration to our community. Unlocking the talent and potential of each and every young person is at the heart of Labour’s vision for education. It is so important that awards like these recognise young people such as Yoni for their hard work."

She claimed that a doubling of investment in education by a Labour Government since 1997 raised expectations that more young people would follow in Yoni’s footsteps.

She added, " He is a shining example to his fellow students and I wish him the best of luck for the future”.

As well as been academically talented Yoni is also a star rugby player at Wasps Youth.
