Rewarding Design 2007

Council seek community opinion on buildings and open spaces across the borough

The face of the borough is changing, and Hounslow Council has launched its first ever design competition to find out what people like about the buildings and open spaces across the borough.

REWARDING DESIGN 2007 will recognise any innovative, sustainable, and high quality design in the local built environment, with the aim of promoting first class design across the borough.

Nominations for the inaugural competition are sought for any projects or schemes completed between 30 June 2002 and 1 July 2007 which people consider to make a positive contribution to the local environment.

It could be a building, part of a building or a garden, square, or playground. It may be no more than work carried out to make an existing building easier to use, or a residence larger, but if it has done its job well and looks good too, it’s worth nominating.

The closing date for nominations is Monday, 1 October 2007, and the award winners will be announced in November. Everyone who sends in a nomination form will be entered in a prize draw. Prizes include a £50 gift voucher and invitations to attend the awards ceremony in December.

Cllr Barbara Reid, Hounslow’s Executive Member for Environment and Planning, said: “The borough has a wealth of wonderful architecture, from historical and heritage sites to modern buildings and innovative uses of open space.

“We have made a commitment to improving the urban design of the borough, and REWARDING DESIGN 2007 aims to celebrate the best the borough has to offer, as seen by its residents, businesses and visitors.

“What makes good design will vary from person to person, so this is your chance to have your say on what new spaces, places or refurbishments in the borough we should reward, and what you think really stands out as high quality design.”

The Rewarding Design nomination forms are available online at www.hounslow.gov.uk. Alternatively, nominations can be sent in by writing to Hounslow Rewarding Design 2007, Borough Planning Office, London Borough of Hounslow, Freepost HL 417 TW3 4BR giving details of the address of the project, why you like it, anything you know about its designers or architects, and how you can be contacted.
