Boost for those with Mental Health Issues

New support workers for Leaders Employment Resource in Brentford

More support is now available to people with mental health issues to help them access employment and training opportunities with the appointment of two specialist workers.

The workers will be based at Leaders Employment Resource, in Brentford, a service that promotes social inclusion and independence by supporting people to access meaningful paid employment opportunities.

This is the first time Hounslow Council has ever recruited workers to specifically assist people with mental health issues into employment, and therefore introduces a positive addition to an already valuable service. In addition, the officers will work with local employers and training providers to change their preconceptions and encourage them to offer opportunities to this group.

Leaders already has a proven track record of assisting people with disabilities with many stories of success. This addition is part of an ambitious extension taking place.

Cllr Pamela Fisher said: “Improving services for people with mental health issues is a key objective of the Hounslow Plan, Hounslow Council’s four year vision for improvement and development for the borough. I am delighted we are introducing this vital new service to the borough. Sometimes people with mental health problems lack the confidence to search for employment and therefore need a little bit of additional support. These new workers will provide that.”

Leaders has been providing a professional and free service since 1990.
