Weighing up the differences between UK and China

Chinese Officials Discover How Hounslow Borough Measures Up

A team of weights and measures experts from China visited the Borough to see how the work they do measures up to the UK’s standards.

Four members of a Chinese delegation of metrologists visited sites around the Borough with two of the Council’s Trading Standards Officers to find out about how weights and measures work is carried out in the UK.

The visit was part of a knowledge exchange programme between the two countries.

The Chinese delegation enjoyed the day and it was useful for them to see how weights and measures work is carried out as a day-to-day function.

The trip was organised by the National Weights and Measures Laboratory, whose role is to ensure that overall UK measurements are accurate, fair and legal. The role of the local Trading Standards Officers is to ensure that weighing and measuring equipment is accurate and legal, and that the quantity in goods is correct.
