Significant traffic disruption is expected across west London over the next few days to an emergency water main repair taking place on the North Circular Road (A406).

Thames Water has informed Transport for London (TfL) that it needs to have the northbound carriageway closed completely from this Friday (26 April) at 9pm with work scheduled to continue until next Tuesday (30 April) although Thames Waters says it is hopeful that it can get the work finished by Monday.

The road will be shut between Chiswick Roundabout and Popes Lane due to excavations on Gunnersbury Avenue near the junction with The Ridgeway.

Thames Water says a leak has occurred in one of its major pipes and that the southbound carriageway will not be affected. The water company adds that local water supplies may need to be turned off temporarily.

TfL says a diversion route will be signposted and we have asked them for details but for previous closures of this kind, traffic has been directed to continue along Chiswick High Road and then to use Acton Lane to reach Uxbridge Road to rejoin the North Circular.
