A woman believed to be in her thirties has died after falling from the footbridge that crosses Gunnersbury Avenue in the early hours of this Friday (2 August).

The Met Police say they were called to the location at 2.18am along with London Ambulance Service.

The woman is understood to have died instantly after being hit by a heavy goods vehicle close to Gunnersbury Park.

A Met Police spokesperson said, "Enquiries are under way to notify next of kin. The Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances of this unexpected death. A lorry driver is assisting police with their enquiries."

The North Circular Road (A316) was closed in both directions following the incident with the road shut between Chiswick Roundabout and A4000 Gunnersbury Lane. There was heavy congestion around the Chiswick area for much of the morning.

It was reopened shortly after noon although traffic in the area continued to move slowly.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or who has dashcam footage should call police on 101 or message @MetCC on X quoting 669/2AUG.
