International Day of Action comes to local Town Halls


Friends of Earth join rally against Heathrow expansion

Friends of the Earth (FOE) members from groups around Heathrow will be taking part in a big procession and rally on Saturday 10 June against expansion of Heathrow.

The Heathrow event is one of many that will be taking place across the UK and Europe as part of an international 'Day of Action'.

Friends of the Earth will be parading a large advertising van with a message about Heathrow and climate change.

Nic Ferriday, aviation campaigner for Friends of the Earth, said "We will be highlighting the issue that none of the other campaigners and none of the councils mention. Yet climate change is the most important issue in the world and it is the most important reason of all why Heathrow should not expand any more."

Councillors are being invited to attend photocalls, so that they can show their support even if their council is not taking an active part in the event.

Up to 11.30. at various town halls and converge on Harlington. They will be provided by councils of Hillingdon, Windsor and Maidenhead, Slough, Wandsworth and Richmond and by Friends of the Earth, HACAN (Heathrow Association for the Control of Aircraft Noise) and NOTRAG (No Third Runway Action Group). Marchers also arrive at Harlington.

A procession of vans and floats will start off at 9.00am from Hammersmith Town Hall, 9.45 from Ealing Town Hall and 10.30 Hounslow Civic Centre.

11.15. Friends of the Earth and other vans arrive at Harlington.

11.30. Procession leaves Harlington (Nobel Drive, near corner of Bath Rd and Harlington High St).

1.00pm. Procession arrives in Harmondsworth for rally and speeches. (Vans have to leave the procession before Harmondsworth.)

1.30pm. Rally ends.

2.00pm - England's World Cup match starts on big screen. There will also be entertainments such as bouncy castles and jugglers; there are two pubs and teas/coffees.
