National Highways has announced that it is about to begin essential repairs to the concrete structure of the M4 Chiswick Flyover.

This is the section of the motorway between Junction 3 and Junction 1 that runs above the A4 Great West Road.

The agency says that the work is necessary to keep the structure stage and extend its lifespan and that it will take place between Monday 23 January and May 2023.

Before work starts it will be necessary to install scaffolding and place netting around the piers of the elevated section which will require full overnight closures along the A4 in both directions.

From Monday 23 January to Sunday 29 January, the A4 will be closed overnight between the A3002 Boston Manor Road and B455 Ealing Road from 10pm to 5am.

A signed diversion will be in place in both directions via the A3002 Boston Manor Road, A315 High Street and B455 Ealing Road. An alternative diversion will be available via the B452 Windmill Road, B4491 Little Ealing Lane and B455 Ealing Road.

The from Monday 6 February to Sunday 12 February, the A4 will be closed overnight in both directions (10pm to 5am) between the B455 and the junction with Clayponds Avenue and Clayponds Lane.

A signed diversion will be in place in both directions via the B455 and A315 and A205 Chiswick Roundabout.

Once this set-up work is complete work will start on the flyoverworking during the day between 7.30am and 5.30pm.

During this time, the A4 will be down to 2 lanes between Boston Manor Road and Brook Lane North and again between Ealing Road and Lionel Road North with a 30mph speed limit in place.

Some pedestrian crossing points will also be closed. The nearest alternative crossing will be signposted.

It is hoped that this work will be finished by late April at which point overnight closures of the A4 will resume to clear the site.

National Highways says it hopes to confirm exact dates nearer the time.
