Call for council to recycle business waste

Local companies look for better recycling facilities

Councillors have been approached by a local business that borders Acton and Chiswick in Southfield who wants the council to provide facilities for local businesses to recycle paper and other business waste.

Currently one of the only ways for businesses to recycle items is to unofficially use their household green box or to travel to Greenford to the recycling centre there which is quite a distance. At the Greenford Road Re-use and Recycling Centre businesses can weigh, unload by hand and dispose of commercial waste.  Charges depend on the type of waste disposed and its gross weight.

Local Lib Dems have called on Ealing Council to be more proactive in not only informing and educating schools and local businesses but also look to provide facilities for many businesses in the Borough.

The company who approached Councillor Gary Malcolm said they have: " …quantities of paper-based waste that will be heading for the land fill from our company, but the waste could be recycled nonetheless."

Cllr Gary Malcolm, Lib Dem Environmental spokesperson said “Liberal Democrats know that many schools and local companies produce lots of paper and other items that can be recycled. Lib Dems want the council to look to setting up systems so that more business waste can be recycled in the Borough.”

Schools are currently provided with a 240 litre wheelie bin or a large 1100 litre container for paper recycling which is emptied free of charge on a weekly basis and schools can also request a free compost bin to start composting their fruit and vegetable peelings.
