Just before the nation prepares to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee, a very different anniversary is being marked.

This Sunday (15 May) saw the launch of a new book Rock’s Diamond Year at the Musical Museum in Brentford. The authors of the anthology published by Supernova Book’s assembled to mark 60 years of rock which is traced back to the opening of the Ealing Club in 1962. The same year saw the formation of the Rolling Stones and the book details the subsequent history of the London clubs that were the engine rooms for the development of guitar-based rock music.

Many of the now-legendary British rock bands honed their skills and developed their stage acts performing on the London club circuit at legendary venues such as The Ealing Club, The Crawdaddy Club, The Marquee, The 100 Club, The Half Moon, the Ricky Tick, The Bull’s Head and the Eel Pie Island Hotel.

The Rolling Stones, the Who, The Faces, The Yardbirds, Cream and the Bluesbreakers are amongst the many acts who performed on the London club circuit .

Rock’s Diamond Year is available now for £12.99.
