Council calls on borough's adults to emulate young students' success
Following the recent success of the borough’s young students in their GCSE and A-levels, Hounslow Council is calling on the borough’s adults to try to emulate their success.
The council run a range of qualification courses including GCSE’s, as well as leisure courses.
The new course brochure contains more than 1000 courses - from art appreciation or access databases to working with wood or yoga - so there’s something for everyone.
Councillor Robert Kinghorn Executive Member for education and children said, “A survey by the Learning and Skills Council earlier this year said that nearly a third of adults regretted not getting better qualifications when they were younger. Twenty seven per cent wish they had made more of the opportunities available to them in school or college.
"We’re offering people the chance to have another go at getting the skills or qualifications they missed out on the first time round.
“There's an amazingly wide choice of courses on offer, whether you want to stimulate your brain or your body.
“You can learn a new skill to help you get a job or improve the skills you already use at work. There are courses to help you find out more about subjects and activities you already love, or maybe want to try for the first time.”
The leisure courses include fitness, arts and crafts, computing and languages. The qualifications you can get through studying part-time include beauty, childcare, business, media, art and design and access courses to prepare you for university.
The Government has recently changed its funding priorities to focus on skills that will be useful in getting or progressing in a job and this brochure features many courses that will help people brush up on their skills for work. However, the council's adult education service has still managed to offer a wide range of courses that offer value for money.
