Media network helps Green Dragon pupils celebrate the new school year
Discovery Networks, a division of the world’s number one non-fiction media company, visited Green Dragon Primary School in Brentford on Wednesday 9th September to present backpacks and back-to-school supplies to the children to celebrate the new school year.
The donation is a part of the company’s commitment to the local community and to providing educational resources through its new initiative ‘Discovery Gets Packing.’ The backpacks will be given to the pupils by employees from Discovery’s European headquarters in Chiswick Park.
Made from the company’s recycled promotional banners and billboard advertisements, each backpack is unique and has been redesigned, cut and sewn into a trendy bag especially for the initiative. The designs include imagery from the networks much enjoyed programmes, featuring everything from sharks to space, that air on Discovery and Animal Planet
The children at Green Dragon Primary School are the UK beneficiaries of a 2009 global drive to fill 1,500 backpacks with school supplies for children in London, Miami, New York and Washington D.C.
Arthur Bastings, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Discovery Networks in Europe, Middle East, and Africa said: ‘We are thrilled to be a part of this initiative. We are committed to supporting the extension of education and hope that by providing these resources we are giving the children the tools needed to stimulate their creative development.’
Jane Buck, Deputy Head Teacher from Green Dragon Primary said: ‘The children from Green Dragon Primary School will be really excited to receive their new school supplies. The teachers strive to ensure a rich experience inside the classroom and ‘Discovery Gets Packing’ will be a great start to the new school year.’
Every pupil at Green Dragon Primary School will receive a backpack containing a ring binder, dividers, a notebook, rubbers, glue sticks, tissues, pencils and coloured pencils.
