Hounslow Kids Make The Grade

KS2 results place Hounslow in national Top 20 for primary education

Provisional figures for the Key Stage 2 results released on Wednesday (September 3) indicate that Hounslow is, in many measures, one of the top boroughs in the country for primary school education.

Significantly, the number of 11 year olds from Hounslow schools getting the benchmark level 4 or above in Reading, Writing and Maths has risen from 77 to 82 per cent. This is the 17th highest in the country, and comfortably above a national average of 78%.

The proportion of pupils achieving the higher level 5 or above in Reading, Writing and Maths has also risen from 23 to 29 per cent – ranking Hounslow 14th nationally – and performance was above the national average in all measures.

The progress children in the Borough have made between Years 2 and 6 – measured by looking at how many levels they have risen since their KS1 results – is also highly-ranked for the key subjects reading (18th nationally) writing, (16th) and maths (9th).

Cllr Tom Bruce, cabinet member for education and children’s services at Hounslow Council, said:

“This summer has seen some great results from local children and young people, and this is another exceptional performance which children, parents and schools should be proud of.

“The results in Reading, Writing and Maths are well above national average, and shows that local schools are doing a wonderful job making sure every child gets the best possible start in life.”

Parents have six preferences to make, and are advised by Hounslow Council to use them all. If places are not available at one of the named schools, children will be allocated a place at a school with vacancies.

Submitting a late application greatly reduces the chance of a child being offered of a place at a preferred school, making it vital that applications are returned to the council by the closing date of 31 October.
