As pupils participate in National Magistrates’ Mock Trial Competition
Teams from Gumley House Convent School and Brentford School for Girls will be competing in the National Magistrates’ Mock Trial Competition will be performing at Feltham Magistrates’ Court this weekend (Saturday 19th May).
The student teams will be taking on the roles of key players such as prosecution and defence lawyers, witnesses etc in court in an assault case.
The teams are marked on their performance and not whether they win or lose the case.
This is the first time that a regional final has been held locally and the winning team will go on to participate in the national final at Nottingham next month.
Magistrates and court staff will be on hand to organise the event which is seen as a valuable way in raising awareness of magistrates and their work, legal procedures and the delivery of justice generally.
Don Ross, Feltham bench chairman said, “We want our local community to be aware of who magistrates are and what work goes on in court, and this competition provides an excellent chance for us to engage with local students, their teachers, parents and supporters.”
