You could save money on your energy bills if you take part in the next Big London Energy Switch auction.

It's a switching scheme that brings people together to use collective buying power to secure better deals on their gas and electricity bills. Anyone who pays a bill can take part, including tenants and customers on pre-pay meters.

Customers are asked to register their interest in saving money by going to www.biglondonenergyswitch.org.uk by midnight on Monday, 17 February. An auction will take place on Tuesday, 18 February during which energy suppliers will compete against each other to offer people who have registered the cheapest tariffs.

Once the auction is complete, everyone who registered will be contacted with their own personal offer. They can then choose whether to switch or stay with their current deal.

The last auction took place in November. More than 13,600 London households took part and 54,094 signed up nationwide. In Ealing, the highest annual saving on offer was for a dual fuel, fixed price, monthly direct debit online tariff at £189.

Councillor Hitesh Tailor, cabinet member for housing, said: “Registering for the Big London Energy Switch makes a lot of sense. It only takes a few minutes and there is no commitment to switch at this stage.

“Energy is a major household expense and switching is a great way of paying less for gas and electricity.  Although there is no guarantee that The Big London Energy Switch will save people money, they have absolutely nothing to lose by registering and they could be offered a better deal.”
