Tara’s first game ends in sweet victory

Local Camogie club making a flying start to the season

Tara Camogie Club started on a high note last weekend with an emphatic win over rivals Fr. Murphy’s 5-6 to 0-0 at Tir Chonaill Park, Greenford in their first Senior League fixture of 2006.

Tara may have lost an hours sleep due to the clocks going forward but they lost no time putting the first goal on the board courtesy of captain, Mariee O’Dwyer (2-1). Playing with the wind they capitalised with further scores from Bridget Grennan (0-4) and Lisa Sherry (1-1). The second half saw some outstanding performances in the back line from Michelle Fleming, Emma Fitzgerald and Aimee Curtin. Bridget Grennan, Sheila Fernandes, Mariee O’Dwyer and Lisa Sherry combined well at midfield and dominated this area throughout the game, with two further goals from "super poachers" Ger Curtain and Niamh Pentony respectively. The final score of 5-6 to 0-0 saw Tara start the year as they mean to continue with their next Junior and Senior games on Sunday April 9th against Brother Pearces Camogie Club.
